Traditional Healers Advisory Council

The Traditional Healers Advisory Council (THAC) was established to ensure the voice of traditional medicine and Indigenous healing practices are central to the work of the All Nations Health Partners – Ontario Health Team (ANHP OHT). THAC plays a vital role in co-designing a health system that blends traditional and mainstream care to support wholistic healing in Northwestern Ontario.
THAC advises the ANHP OHT, its advisory councils, and working groups, drawing on traditional knowledge and the guidance of Elders and Treaty 3 representatives, guides the integration of Anishinaabe healing and ensures culturally appropriate care is reflected in all levels of decision-making for the ANHP OHT.

The work of THAC is rooted in:

- Long-term thinking – considering impacts on seven generations
- Ceremony-first approach
- Active, respectful listening and collaboration
- Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action
- Cross-cultural learning and relationship building
- Create traditional protocols, ethics, and conduct codes
- Build culturally based curriculum
- Facilitate dialogue with Elders, health providers, and partners
- Ensure regular communication through newsletters, social media, and reports
- Identify and recommend qualified healers
- Promote education and 24/7 access to traditional health services
- Support training in cultural humility and anti-racism
